Why Become A Model?

Let me ask you something: Why exactly do you want to become a model?

Before you answer, let me tell you why I think finding your unique and personal answer to this question is so important for your future as a model. And why knowing whether or not modeling is your real purpose in life will make

all the difference for you.

For starters, modeling is a very demanding profession, both mentally and physically.

Unless this is something you really want to do, and with everything you've got, you may quickly find that modeling is less glamorous and just plain harder than you expected. You might even discover it isn't what you expected

at all!

To outsiders modeling looks easy. All they see is you jetting to a beautiful location, wearing designer's clothes and looking great while photographers and make-up artists fawn over you.

The reality is that yes, you'll certainly experience your fair share of glamour and excitement. But there's a flip side to this picture, one that outsiders rarely suspect. You'll be away from family and friends for extended periods,

often missing out on important events back home. You'll sometimes feel like an outsider while you move temporarily to a strange city, working the fashion season there. And like all models, you'll also experience plenty of

pavement pounding, calls to sacrifice and loads of rejection.

Trust me, this is no cake walk!

But none of this should discourage you even one little bit if modeling is your true calling in life. If it is, I can promise you that you'll enjoy the upside of this career far more than you'll feel discouraged by its downside.

Like they say, "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life."

So...

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF MODELING IS YOUR TRUE PURPOSE?

To find out if modeling really is your true purpose, I believe there are three questions you must ask and answer to yourself, the first being the most direct, "Why do I want to become a model?"

Everyone is going to have their own answer to that question. What is yours?

Is it to achieve fame and fortune? To travel the world and meet all kinds of interesting people? Is it to be perceived as beautiful or popular? To show others who the shy or 'geeky' kid you were back in school is now?

While these can certainly be by-products of a modeling career, I don't believe they are good reasons by themselves. I hope the real answer for you is more along the lines of "I just have to because it's inside of me!"

In other words, I hope your desire to be a model comes from a feeling deep inside you. It is your true purpose trying to find a way to get out and express itself.

The next question to ask is: "Would I do this even if I wasn't being paid?"

If your answer is "Yes!" because the thought of being a model excites you totally, because the amount of "inner income" you would receive would outweigh everything else, you're on the right track. (Understand that I'm

definitely not suggesting you work for free as a model--you shouldn't-- but I do want to make a point.)

And the acid test for determining whether modeling is your true dream is to ask yourself this: 'What would I do if I knew for certain that I couldn't fail?'

In other words, if you could know in advance that success was guaranteed and that you could be and do WHATEVER you wanted, what would you choose to set your heart and mind to? I encourage you to open up your mind

here as you consider this question. Put absolutely no limits on the possibilities.

If your answer loud and clear remains "I would still want to become a model more than anything else!" then you're already well on your way to becoming one. All paths to success begin with a clear vision of what you want. And

why.
